KC, Karki win

LALITPUR: Thulo Bhai KC and Bharat Karki won the Ramailo Badminton Tournament organised

by Jawalakhel Youth Club (JYC) to mark the 36th anniversary of the club. The duo registered a 15-12, 17-14 victory over Parasar Jung Pande and Kirojman Singh in the final here on Friday. In the third place match, Binod Kaji Shrestha and Dipu Rai beat Briden Subba and Bipin Rai 35-32. SP Pashupati Upadhyay and JYC President Sunil SJB Rana gave away prizes to the winners. A total of 16 teams took part in the tournament sponsored by Buddha Air. — HNS

Lubhoo VDC triumph

LALITPUR: Lubhoo VDC defeated South Lalitpur United Club ‘A’ 25-22, 25-23 in the inaugural match of the Lalitpur Districtwide Open Men’s Volleyball Tournament here on Friday. A total of eight teams are taking part in the tournament which has been organised by Lalitpur District Sports Development Committee to mark the New Year, second Loktantra Day and 29th Olympics. Earlier, member of Constituent Assembly Barsaman Pun inaugurated the three-day league-cum-knock out tournament. Apart from Lubhoo and three teams of South Lalitpur United Club, the other teams in the event are Godavari VDC, Basanta Youth Club, Fire Sports Club and Gotikhel Janahit Club. — HNS

Bracewell to quit

WELLINGTON: New Zealand cricket coach John Bracewell will step down when his contract expires in April next year, New Zealand Cricket said on Friday. “John has informed me that he will not be looking to extend his contract for another term and will instead pursue other coaching opportunities in cricket,” New Zealand Cricket chief executive Justin Vaughan said. —AFP
