Proteas beat Windies

Johannesburg: Shaun Pollock’s farewell tour of South Africa started in triumph when he steered his team to victory in a Twenty20 international against the West Indies on Friday. Pollock top-scored with 36 not out off 25 balls as South Africa won by four wickets with four balls to spare. The West Indies made 131-7 after being sent in to bat first. Stand-in captain Dwayne Bravo made 24 off 17 balls with two sixes. It was the second 20-overs international of the tour. The West Indies won by five wickets in Port Elizabeth in December. — AP

Riquelme selected

BUENOS AIRES: Playmaker Juan Roman Riquelme and midfielder Javier Mascherano will play for Argentina at the Beijing Olympics where they are the defending champions. Coach Sergio Batista said Riquelme, who now plays at Boca Juniors, Liverpool’s Javier Mascherano as well as Bayern Munich defender Martin Demichelis will be his over-age players. Tournament rules allow three players over the age of 23 to be included in each squad for the Olympics. — AFP
