Swimmers depart

KATHMANDU: A six-member swimming team left for Melbourne on Sunday to take part in the 12th FINA World Swimming Championship slated for March 17 to April 1. The event is the basically the qualifying tournament for the Beijing Olympics. Among the players, Prashidda Jung Shah, Rajiv Chitrakar and Karisma Karki will compete in the 50m freestyle while Bibidha Rimal will take part in 50m breaststroke. The players were accompanied by Nepal Swimming Association general secretary Ashok Bajracharya and coach Ishwor Karki. Nepal is scheduled to play on March 29-30. — HNS

Two-a-side volleyball

KATHMANDU: Dhorpatan Dohari Sanjh beat Thasang Sports Club ‘B’ 25-21, 25-10 and advanced to the quarter-finals of the Dhorpatan SEB Two-a-side Volleyball Tournament on Sunday. Also making it to the quarter-finals were Dark Group, Thasang Sports Club ‘A’, Armed Police Force ‘A’ and Deep Jyoti School. — HNS
