World Radio Day marked
KATHMANDU: Nepal Sports Journalists Forum on Tuesday organised an interaction on Role of Radio for Promotion of Sports in Nepal’ to mark the World Radio Day.
Madhu Acharya, President of Sharecast Initiative Nepal, said sports was not under the priority of radios in Nepal. “Sports news have been used for filler and there is not enough investment in sports programmes.
The lack of quality contents is one of the major reasons of decrease in listeners,” said Acharya “Still radio attracts huge audience whenever there are big events,” said Acharya. Olympian Deepak Bista said sports was not given enough priority in radios.
“Unlike print media, radios have not been giving enough priority to cover sports related issues,” said Bista.
Likewise, co-founder of Sharecast Bhanu Chapagain said broadcasters needed to focus on content and they can also convert them into cash later on.
NSJF Senior Vice-president Durganath Subedi, General Secretary Prakash Timalsina, Spokesperson Pawan Acharya, Member Sarita Shrestha and AIPS-Asia Treasurer Niranjan Rajbanshi shared their experience of radio journalism.
