DHANGADHI, MAY 7
Sudur Paschim Province is facing an acute shortage of oxygen, increasing the risk for both Covid and non-Covid patients.
The province that was already suffering from a shortage of oxygen was further affected by the closure of the sole oxygen plant there, Malika Oxygen Industry, due to strong winds last night.
Although the industry resumed its operation this morning, it is unable to cope with the staggering demands.
Similarly, Nepalgunj-based oxygen plants that used to send oxygen to the province have drastically cut down supply owing to the pressure from local authorities to not send out the available oxygen.
The oxygen tankers that had reached Nepalgunj for refilling have been waiting for the same.
"Seti Provincial Hospital, the largest and only referral hospital of the province, has completely exhausted its oxygen stock," informed Dr Hem Raj Pandey, Medical Superintendent of the hospital. "If there is no immediate oxygen supply in the hospital, the situation will turn grim fast here," he added.
Today, almost all Dhangadhi-based hospitals are witnessing a severe shortage of oxygen, due to which Covid-19 patients are at great risk.
