A precautionary dosage has also been announced for healthcare and frontline workers

KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 26

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced Saturday that the children aged 15-18 years will be administered with Covid-19 vaccines from January 3, amid the rising Covid cases linked to the virus's Omicron strain.

The Indian PM in his address to the nation said that this vaccination campaign will reduce the worries of children going to schools and colleges and their parents, and boost the fight against the pandemic.

"The move is also likely to aid in normalisation of teaching in schools," Modi said in his address.

Similarly, according to India's news agency PTI, Modi had said on January 10 that "precaution doses" would be administered to healthcare and frontline workers.

Likewise, he had also announced that the precaution dose will also be available for citizens above 60 years of age and with comorbidities on the advice of their doctor.

"I would urge all of you not to panic, be careful and alert. Remember to mask up and keep washing hands," Modi said while adding that more than 61 per cent of India's adult population has received both doses of the vaccines while about 90 per cent of the adult population has received a single dose of the vaccine."
