J&J to be administered from July 19
KATHMANDU, JULY 13
The government is inoculating people with recently received Vero cell Covid-19 vaccines from today itself.
According to the notice published by authorities, Vero cell administration drive this time will include all people aged above 55 who have yet to receive their first dose, University professors, school teachers and their staff, drivers and assistant drivers of the public vehicles, all personnel who are engaged in activities pertaining to the emergency services but have yet to receive vaccines and Nepali citizens who are traveling to the countries that have mandated Covid-19 vaccine on arrival.
Meanwhile, the government has decided to administer the Johnson & Johnson single-shot vaccine donated under the COVAX facility by the US to people aged between 50-54 who have yet to receive their first dose of vaccine. The government is planning to hold the inoculation drive from July 19 to 21.
The J&J vaccine will be further targeted at persons with disabilities, refugees in Nepal, and health workers and sanitation staffers who has missed to take their shots during the previous drives.
Nepal government had recently procured 800,000 doses of Vero cell from Sinopharma under a government-to-government agreement with China, the first of the consignments from China.
Meanwhile, the US has donated 1.5 million doses of J&J single-dose vaccine to Nepal under the COVAX facility.
