Mahajan brother in police custody

Mumbai, April 23:

Pravin Mahajan, accused of shooting and grievously injuring his brother and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Pramod Mahajan, was today remanded in police custody till April 29.

Pravin, who shot at his brother yesterday, was produced in a holiday court here amid heavy police presence. The prosecution argued that since it was a high profile crime and many aspects of the sensational case was yet to be probed it was necessary to take Pravin into police custody.

The court rejected arguments of Pravin’s lawyer that the accused was not of sound mind and, therefore, his confessional statement could not be taken to be true. Meanwhile, Pramod Mahajan continued to battle for life today. He continued to be on life support system in the intensive care unit. London-based surgeon Mohammed Rele, considered one of the leading liver transplant specialists in the world, has been flown in to Mumbai for evaluating Pramod Mahajan’s condition.
