TOKYO: Japan’s prime minister-elect has chosen a legislator who wants to be more assertive with the US as foreign minister and will announce it on Monday. Japanese media quoted Yukio Hatoyama’s as making the comments over the weekend.
Katsuya Okada, 56, the secretary-general of the Democratic Party of Japan, is expected to take a more Asian-oriented diplomacy than the Liberal Democrats. Okada has never held a Cabinet post.
