Lahore, January 20:

A media advocacy group has urged the Pakistan government to protect journalists from religious militants, reports UPI. The note of protest from the Paris-based Reporters Without Borders followed an attack on the Press Club in Lahore by a Shia student group last week. At least 10 journalists were injured in the attack. The militants also threw firebombs inside the building. The attackers were upset with the media for giving “inadequate” coverage to the assassination of a Shia religious leader in northern Pakistan this month. The media advocacy group said that although a police party was guarding the club when the students attacked it on January 14, they let the students beat up journalists for half an hour before moving to rescue them.
