Passenger assaults bus driver in Istanbul: 11 hurt in crash
ANKARA: A passenger assaulted a driver with an umbrella on a bus in Istanbul on Friday, causing him to lose control, veer out of the bus lane and crash into oncoming traffic, officials said. Eleven people were hurt.
The bus slammed into a double-decker bus and three cars on a road in the city's Acibadem district during the morning rush hour, the Istanbul municipality said in a statement.
Television footage showed at least three vehicles crushed beneath the weight of the bus.
The Istanbul governor's office said 11 people, including the bus driver, were hurt in the incident. None of them was in serious condition.
The passenger who assaulted the bus driver was taken into custody, the governor's office said.
It was not immediately known why the passenger attacked the driver.
