Re-polling held in Bihar

Polling was under way in the lone remaining assembly constituency in Bihar today even as re-polling was held in 459 booths in constituencies that had gone to the polls February 23.

Polling was held for the Surajgarha seat from Lakhisarai district, with 242 of the 243 assembly constituencies already having held elections in three phases by February 23. Official sources said three hours after the polling and re-polling began, there were no reports of violence. Polling in Surajgarha was rescheduled by the Election Commission on complaints of irregularities in the preparation of voters’ identity cards. Originally polls in Surajgarha were to be held in the second phase February 15. Re-polling was under way at 16 booths in Siwan, 12 in Gopalganj, 47 in Saran, 21 in Sitamarhi, 29 in West Champaran, 72 in East Champaran, 94 in Muzaffarpur, 71 in Patna, 56 in Vaishali and 58 in Nalanda.

The Election Commission yesterday ordered re-polling at the 459 booths in 81 out of the 93 constituencies where polls were held on Wednesday.
