30 killed in Myanmar
Yangon:
Nearly 30 people — including 12 schoolchildren — were feared dead after landslides triggered by torrential rains hit southeastern Myanmar, a Red Cross official said on Friday. Landslides were reported in four places near Myeik — also known as Mergui — on Wednesday, said the official. The death toll included 12 students from a small primary school engulfed by mud in Kyaukka village near Palaw, about 500 km southeast of Yangon. At least 27 people were believed to have been killed and an uncertain number of others injured. — AP
Suspected spy held
NEW DELHI:
Indian police on Friday said, Azeem Wali, a Pakistani national had been arrested on charges of espionage after they recovered military documents from him relating to a skirmish fought between the two South Asian nuclear rivals in 1999. Another person described as a “contact” of the alleged spy was being questioned following the overnight arrest, an officer at Delhi police department’s anti-espionage cell said. — AFP
