KATHMANDU, JULY 28
At least 40 climbers including a 19-year-old Pakistani climber and first woman mountaineer from Ukraine successfully scaled the world's second highest mountain on Tuesday, according to expedition organisers.
Pasang Sherpa, chairman at Pioneer Adventure Treks, said that at least 19 climbers from his company stood atop Mt K2 (8,611m) while Iryna Galay became the first female climber from Ukraine to scale the mountain. "Dmytro Semerenko from Ukraine has also scaled K2 without using supplemental oxygen," Sherpa shared.
The Pioneer team jointly led by Lakpa Sherpa and Mingma Dorchi Sherpa made 100 percent success on K2, according to Sherpa. "Valentyn, Pavlo, Olga, Aleksandr, Kirill, Valdimr, Shehroze Kashif and Muhammad Sharif along with Sherpa climbers reached the summit point."
Among them, Shehroze has made two unique World Records by becoming the "youngest mountaineer in the world to summit K2 and the youngest and only teenager mountaineer in the world to summit the world's top two tallest mountains - Everest on 11 May and K2 in 27th July - the same year 2021 within 3 months".
"He was in the Everest Expedition before heading to the K-2 expedition. In spring, he successfully scaled the world's highest peak Everest and now he also made a successful climb on K2."
Lakpa Sherpa, Mingma Dorchi Sherpa, Sanu Sherpa, Pemba Rita Sherpa, Lakpa Gyalzen Sherpa, Mingma Dorchi Sherpa, Chhiring Namgel Sherpa, Pemba Dorchee Sherpa and Tashi Sherpa from Poineers Adventure Treks also scale K2, Sherpa added.
Iswari Poudel , Managing Director at Himalayan Guides, informed that a team of international climbers led by Garrett Madison made successful ascent of K2. Renowned British climbers including Kenton Edward Cool, Jonathan Christian Gupta and Rebecca Jane Ferry among others scaled the mountain, he added.
