Kathmandu, September 12

Officials at the Kathmandu Metropolitan City said core city roads will be beautified with greenery and other infrastructures after the ongoing footpath renovation completes.

The paver blocks on footpaths are being replaced with cobblestones in the core city areas with joint effort of the Department of Roads, Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transportation, KMC and Kathmandu Sustainable Urban Transport Project since January.

Disabled-friendly infrastructures will be built on the new footpaths while the cobblestone is expected beautify the roads as they are more durable than paver blocks.

Rabin Man Shrestha, chief of Environment Management Department at the KMC said, “We have plans to install traffic lights, plant green trees, reinstall tree guards, and set up flower beds along the reworked footpaths after the 15 km Tripureshwor-Tundikhel-Lainchaur and Durbar Marg-Singha Durbar-Bhadrakali stretches are completely renovated.”
