Nepal Police arrest 80 shutdown enforcers inside Kathmandu valley

KATHMANDU, FEBRUARY 4

Around 80 strike enforcers have been detained from different parts of Kathmandu Valley, according to Police Spokesperson, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Basanta Bahadur Kunwar.

The general strike enforced by Dahal-Nepal faction of ruling Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has affected normal life across the nation. According to the Nepal Police, the vehicular movement is low across the country today.

Among the detainees are NCP standing committee member Ashtalaxmi Shakya, Hitman Shakya, and Amrita Thapa Magar.

Meanwhile, A taxi was torched in Samakhusi this morning, SSP Kunwar said, however, there is no further incident reported so far.

The vehicular flow is gradually increasing on the roads in the valley now.

Ministry of Home Affairs has urged all to operate their vehicular enterprises, businesses, industries and professional work without any hesitation. Necessary security arrangements have been made to ward off any untoward incidents and obstructions for the operation of business and industries, the Ministry said in a press release on Wednesday. It has also urged all sides to not carry out any violent activities that would undermine the law and order and citizens' right to enjoy their freedom without any obstruction.

Legal actions would be taken against those found involved in incidents of vandalism, arson, among others in a way to incite violence and breach law and order, the ministry said.

The NCP faction enforced the nationwide strike in protest of the government's act of administering oath of office to the chiefs and members of constitutional bodies without parliamentary hearings.
