Chinese EV giant climbs 52 places with record revenue and NEV sales

Chinese electric vehicle and clean energy manufacturer BYD has secured the 91st spot in the 2025 Fortune Global 500 list, marking its first-ever entry into the top 100. The company jumped from 143rd place in 2024, making its fourth consecutive appearance since 2022.
In 2024, BYD reported RMB 777.1 billion (USD 107.1 billion) in revenue, a 29% year-on-year increase, with 4.27 million new energy vehicles (NEVs) sold globally-a 41% jump, securing its position as the world's top NEV seller for the third consecutive year.
The company invested heavily in research and development, spending RMB 54.2 billion (USD 7.47 billion), exceeding its net profit for the period. Over the past 14 years, BYD's R&D spending has outpaced profits in 13 of those years, leading to innovations such as the Blade Battery, DiSus Intelligent Body Control System, and Megawatt Flash Charging technology, according to the press release issued by the company.
BYD also expanded its global presence, setting up a European headquarters in Hungary, rolling out its first vehicle from its Brazil plant, and delivering its 90,000th NEV in Thailand, with vehicles now available in 112 countries and regions worldwide.
The company said its latest Fortune Global 500 ranking reflects its commitment to technological innovation, global expansion, and sustainable development, in line with its mission to "Cool the Earth by 1°C."
