KATHMANDU, APRIL 23

Carlsberg Group has announced plans to strengthen water stewardship initiatives in Nepal, focusing on sustainable water management and long-term environmental resilience.

The company said it is expanding efforts through its global partnership with WWF Denmark, prioritising efficient water use alongside groundwater replenishment and wetland restoration in vulnerable areas.

Under a three-year plan from 2026 to 2028, Carlsberg will work on restoring degraded wetlands and improving water availability in key regions. The initiative aims to enhance water resilience at the basin level, benefiting both ecosystems and local communities.

The programme will be guided by the WWF Water Risk Filter, a tool designed to support data-driven identification and management of water-related risks across operations and supply chains.

Carlsberg said Nepal has emerged as a strategic priority market. The company's ongoing sustainability initiatives, along with its commitment to invest Rs 10 billion, reflect its long-term plan for responsible growth. The investment is also expected to boost local production capacity and strengthen partnerships within the country.

The move comes amid increasing emphasis by global companies on aligning business expansion with environmental sustainability, particularly in water-stressed regions.
