Eighth global NRNA conference to begin in the Capital from today

Kathmandu, October 13

The eighth global conference of Non-Residential Nepali Association (NRNA) is kicking off in the Capital from Saturday.

The four-day event of Nepali diaspora across the globe is scheduled to

elect the new executive committee of NRNA and seek ways to transform the organisation.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NRNA Rajan Rana said that Nepali diaspora from across the world have already arrived in Nepal to participate in the NRNA global conference.

NRNA is hosting the global conference and NRNA international general assembly together. Rana informed that the NRNA global conference this year is being held with the slogan of ‘Transforming NRNA: Our women, our youth and second generation 2017.’

Similarly, the conference is also said to be focused on socio-economic development of Nepal, public

advocacy and the role of foreign direct investment (FDI) in Nepal.

The NRNA conference will also elect a new 39-member executive committee, which is also called International Coordination Council (ICC), on Monday.

Meanwhile, two candidates — Bhaban Bhatta and Jamuna Gurung — are vying for the top post of NRNA in the NRNA election scheduled for Monday.

Incumbent Vice President Bhatta had announced his candidacy few weeks back while Gurung announced her candidacy on Thursday.

Gurung is the spouse of current President Shesh Ghale, who served as NRNA president for two consecutive tenures. Ghale and Gurung are listed as the 101st richest in Australia.

Both the candidates have been claiming they would best lead the organisation.

While Gurung has vowed to give continuity to the works initiated by past NRNA leaders and connect each Nepali living abroad, Bhatta has said that he would take forward the organisation through medium-term and long-term plans and work to transform NRNA into ‘smart NRNA’ during his tenure.

The new executive committee of NRNA will have the tenure of two years.
