KATHMANDU, APRIL 3

Gold has become even dearer in the Nepali market, reaching a historic high of Rs 180,300 per tola on Thursday. The surge reinforces the yellow metal's status as a prized possession in Nepal, where it holds deep cultural, religious, and economic significance.

The yellow metal had previously reached a record high of Rs 179,700 per tola on Tuesday before declining to Rs 179,100 per tola on Wednesday. However, it rebounded strongly on Thursday, gaining Rs 1,200 per tola, according to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers' Association.

In Nepal, where gold is integral to weddings, religious rituals, and investment traditions, the soaring prices have made it both more desirable and more out of reach for many.

Meanwhile, silver prices moved in the opposite direction. The white metal, which was priced at Rs 2,020 per tola on Wednesday, declined by Rs 25 per tola to settle at Rs 1,995 per tola today.
