KATHMANDU, AUGUST 8

The Confederation of Nepalese Industry (CNI) recently held a constructive dialogue with Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation Sudan Kirati with the aim of revitalising Nepal's tourism sector. The meeting, which took place at the ministry, focused on several key areas aimed at promoting and enhancing Nepal's tourism industry.

During the meeting, CNI highlighted the importance of collaboration between the government and the private sector to foster the growth of Nepal's tourism industry.

Rajesh Kumar Agarwal, president of CNI, stressed the significance of effectively re-establishing direct air links with Europe. He pointed out the considerable spending potential of European tourists and urged to take necessary steps for Nepal's prompt removal from the European Union's aviation security list.

Agrawal also emphasised CNI's commitment to the tourism industry by disclosing the establishment of a dedicated Tourism Committee, signifying its top priority, and its dedication to close cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism.

Throughout the discussion, CNI also raised concerns about the insufficient air routes supporting the operations of Pokhara International Airport and Gautam Buddha International Airport. Moreover, CNI advocated for the timely completion of road transport upgrades leading to tourist destinations, particularly to position Nepal as an appealing filming location. Additionally, CNI emphasised issues like increases in air ticket prices and other pertinent matters.

In response, Minister Kirati conveyed his determination to get Nepal removed from the European Union's security list, expressing optimism about positive developments in this front.

He assured that the government is resolute in re-establishing direct air connectivity with the European Union.

Furthermore, Minister Kirati expressed his disagreement with the imposition of heightened taxes on air tickets, especially considering the rising overall costs associated with travelling to Nepal.

Minister Kirati also revealed forthcoming plans to procure aircraft for trunk routes, aimed at providing essential services to remote areas of Nepal, alongside acquiring narrow-body aircraft for international flights to enhance Nepal Airlines Corporation's competitive position. He reiterated his commitment to collaborating with CNI to advance the growth and development of Nepal's tourism industry.
