A total of 285,363 foreign tourists entered Nepal in the first seven months of 2022, indicating a strong recovery in the country's tourism sector compared to the 230,085 tourists who visited the country in 2020 and 150,962 in 2021.
As per the latest data unveiled by Nepal Tourism Board today, the country welcomed a total of 44,462 tourists by air in July, a drop of 24.4 per cent compared to the same month in 2019, when 58,811 tourists had visited Nepal.
A total of 17,299 Indian tourists entered Nepal last month, which was an increase of 10.9 per cent compared to the number of Indian nationals who had visited Nepal in July of 2019. Similarly, the country received 1,874 tourists from Bangladesh, 395 from Pakistan, 219 from Sri Lanka, and 193 from Bhutan.
Of the total international tourists who entered Nepal last month, 44.9 per cent were from the SAARC countries, as per the NTB.
Similarly, 20.5 per cent of total visitors in July were from European countries. Of them, 3,953 were from the United Kingdom, 718 from Germany, and 759 from France. Similarly, tourists from Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark, Israel, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Switzerland, Spain, Russia, Ukraine, and Sweden also arrived in Nepal in July.
From Oceania, 1,148 were Australian nationals while 64 were from New Zealand. Over the same time, 616 Canadian tourists and 5,228 American tourists came to Nepal.
From other countries in Asia, 1,593 tourists were from China, 466 from Japan, 738 from Malaysia, 367 from Singapore, 558 from South Korea, 430 from Thailand, and 43 from Myanmar. Meanwhile, a total of 3,735 tourists visited Nepal in July from countries categorised as 'others'.
India contributed to the highest number of foreign tourists who visited Nepal, with a total of 114,612 Indian nationals arriving in the country in the past seven months followed by the USA, UK, Bangladesh, and Australia respectively.
A total of 40,098 American nationals, 21,876 British nationals, 13,060 Bangladeshi nationals, and 10,692 Australians visited Nepal in the first seven months of 2022.
