After the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) raised fuel prices on August 16, the Ministry of Labour, Employment and Transport Management of Bagmati Province has announced hike in fares of public vehicles operating in the province, including taxis.
A ministerial-level meeting held on August 21 had decided to hike fares from today.
Accordingly, the fare for vehicles operating within Kathmandu valley has increased to Rs 19 for five kilometres, Rs 26 for 10 kilometres, Rs 31 for 15 kilometres, Rs 35 for 20 kilometres and Rs 40 for more than 20 kilometres.
Similarly, the flag drop rate of taxis has been fixed at Rs 52. The fare per 200 metres thereafter has been increased from Rs 10 to Rs 10.34. Similarly, the waiting fee has also been increased to Rs 1.24 per minute.
Similarly, for the night taxi service, the flag drop rate has been fixed at Rs 52, while the fare in between 9:00pm and 4:00am has been fixed at Rs 15.52 per 200 metres.
Similarly, the fare of passenger vehicles operating in places outside the Kathmandu valley has increased by 5.31 per cent.
A few days ago, the Department of Transport Management had increased the fare of public vehicles operating in the inter-province routes.
The price of diesel, which was fixed at Rs 144.83 per litre on July 17, has been increased by Rs 21 a litre on August 16 to Rs 165.83 per litre.
As fuel prices have soared by 14.50 per cent compared to the base price fixed during the last adjustment, the fares of inter-provincial public transports were adjusted with effect from August 16.
The department had increased the fare by 4.70 per cent for passenger vehicles operating the inter-province service, 6.15 per cent for cargo vehicles operating in the hilly and mountainous region, and 6.83 per cent for cargo vehicles operating in the Tarai region.
