Legacy Cookout event blends heritage cuisine with interactive culinary competition
KATHMANDU, JANUARY 13
Hotel Yak & Yeti, in collaboration with Tasneem's Kitchen, recently hosted the Legacy Cookout Challenge at the Lal Durbar Convention Centre's Crystal Palace Courtyard, celebrating Nepal's culinary heritage through live demonstrations and interactive cooking.
The event featured Chef Amit, Executive Sous Chef of Yak & Yeti, who showcased the iconic Chicken Alakiev, a signature dish originally created at Chimney-Nepal's first fine-dining restaurant established in 1957. Alongside the demonstration, guests were introduced to the historical significance of the dish.
Following the presentation, participants took part in a cookout challenge where they prepared Nepali Mushroom Risotto under Chef Amit's guidance, highlighting the hotel's emphasis on blending local ingredients with global culinary techniques.
Six teams competed within a 25-minute timeframe and were judged on presentation, hygiene, cleanliness and taste. Team Arborio emerged as the winner, receiving exclusive Yak & Yeti gifts.
Yak & Yeti General Manager MR Gopinath Gopalan said the event reflected the hotel's commitment to creating meaningful cultural and culinary experiences. "Such events celebrate not only heritage cuisine but also creativity and connection through food," he said.
