Nepathya releases love song video on YouTube on Valentine's day

KATHMANDU: Nepali folk rock band Nepathya has launched a love song "Mero Hajur" on YouTube on the occasion of Valentine's Day.

The lyric video has been made by Shashank Shrestha and his Kathaharu team, and produced by Nepa~laya.

Nepathya's front man Amrit Gurung wrote and composed the song 10 years ago during his trip to the Mount Everest base camp.

In a statement, Gurung shared a story behind the song.

"I had written and composed this song during my trek to Everest Base Camp. I was at Lobuche (4930 m) in a December night back in 2005. All my friends said I was crazy to do this route during this time. And they were right, I was crazy. I could not sleep due to the sub-zero temperature. And the thin air would not help. I put on all the cloths I had but still could not sleep. I peeped out of the window and was awestruck with the scene. It was a full moon night and the sky was clear. The mountains that surrounded me were at its magnificence, I felt they were smiling at me."

"The stars were twinkling so close to me. The first person that I thought of with whom I wanted to share this view was my beloved. But she was not with me. Hence, I tried to write something. But as it was so cold, I could not even hold the pen. I then took out my recorder and recited what I had in mind. I listened to it and it sounded like a song. Immediately a tune struck my mind. But I did not have any instrument with me. I put on the recorder and recorded the tune. While doing this I did not realise what time I went off to sleep. It felt like I blinked and it was morning already."

"When I woke up, I listened to the recordings I had done at night. I heard the words and the tune. It made me smile. I tried to recall - when was the last I had written and composed a love song. It had been quite a while. With the song, the tune and thought of my beloved in my mind I continued my walk towards Gorak Shep. I was still one stop away from the Base Camp."
