A COVID patient underwent a complicated surgery at COVID Hospital at BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan, this morning.
A male aged 40 from Kalyanpur, Siraha, underwent successful operation at 2:30am, said a source at BPKIHS. The male had breathing difficulty as his stomach was swollen, and he had fever, common cold, and was vomiting. He was referred from Karjana-based Phool Kumari Mahato Memorial Hospital to BPKIHS. Duodenal perforation was seen in his small intestine and it had spread into the stomach. The COVID patient had to be operated immediately due to peptic ulcer.
Talking to The Himalayan Times, Dr Nirmal Prasad Shah said, "The COVID patient had to be operated as not doing so would have cost him his life". Shah added that the operation was successfully performed in two hours. A group of doctors led by Shah had carried out surgery on him.
Co-speaker at BPKIHS Chudamani Pokhrel said that it was the first case of full operation of a COVID patient in the COVID ward after the second wave of COVID-19 started spreading.
During the first wave of COVID-19, five COVID patients had undergone surgery at the COVID Hospital in BPKIHS.
