Agree to manage eWaste from electric cooking appliances

KATHMANDU, JUNE 29

Doko Recyclers, Him Electronics, and Practical Action Nepal have signed the country's first voluntary Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) agreement to manage end-of-life electric cooking appliances.

The agreement, signed on June 26, 2025, at the Golchha Group Corporate Office, falls under the project "Escalating the Uptake of Electric Pressure Cookers (EPCs) in Nepalese Households", supported by the Modern Energy Cooking Services (MECS) programme and funded by UK Aid (FCDO).

Under the agreement, Doko Recyclers will be responsible for the safe recycling of electric cooking devices. "This is a stepping stone for the initiative, and we aim to engage more businesses like Him Electronics in the future," said Raghavendra Mahto, Co-founder of Doko Recyclers.

Practical Action Nepal will oversee coordination, awareness campaigns, and monitoring. "We are proud to facilitate this first-of-its-kind initiative," stated Rabin Shrestha, Project Manager.

The agreement is expected to serve as a model for responsible e-waste management and extended producer responsibility in Nepal's growing electronics sector.
