Acid attack victim Pariyar shifted to TUTH general ward
Kathmandu, October 12
Thirty-year-old Basanti Pariyar, who was critically injured after her own neighbour threw acid on her and stabbed her at Danda of Kawasoti Municipality, Nawalparasi, and is receiving treatment at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital, was shifted to general ward from post-operative care unit of Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital today.
Basanti has been receiving treatment at Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit of Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital for the past 15 days.
Though doctors have said she is out of danger, she is still suffering from fever.
According to Yam Narayan Pariyar, husband of Basanti, she is in trauma. She talks to herself and cannot reply to what they ask. She keeps staring blankly most of the time.
Basanti was stabbed after acid attack by her neighbor Bimal Sirpali (who surrendered himself to police and is in the police custody) while returning home from market on September 24.
Talking to The Himalayan Times, Basanti’s husband Yam said she had serious injuries in her head, face, abdomen, chest, lungs, hands and legs.
A month after Yam Narayan, Basanti’s husband, returned home from Malaysia for the treatment of diabetes and piles, Basanti faced this unfortunate incident.
“My wife never told me about the marriage proposal of neighbour Sirpali. If she had told me, this would not have happened,” he added.
“We have a 13-year-old son and a seven-year-old daughter. I went to Malaysia to earn money for the better future of my children,” Yam Narayan shared, adding that the devastating incident had ruined his happy family and traumatised him and his children. He said he hoped that his wife would recover soon that they she could be taken back home.
According to Basanti, she had been refusing marriage proposal of Sirpali, who had also returned home from Saudi Arabia six months ago. Sirpali had threatened to kill her if she refused the proposal.
“Earlier, he used to be a good person but after he returned from Saudi, his behavior suddenly changed. Once, he had even shared with me that he used to take drugs,” Yam said.
Basanti’s mother demanded lifetime imprisonment for the culprit and also said he should pay compensation to the family.
