Ban sought on 32-seater buses on BP Highway

Kathmandu, June 3

Advocate Kailash Raj Dahal today filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court challenging the government’s decision to allow movement of 32 seater  buses on BP Highway.

The petitioner has sought interim order against the decision taken by Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, arguing that BP Highway does not have capacity to bear the burden of more than 18 seater buses due to narrow road and sharp turns.

The petitioner said that last year Transport Management Department had banned the movement of large vehicles on Banepa-Sindhuli-Bardibas section of the highway keeping in mind narrow road and sharp turns, but the ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport lifted the ban without any reasonable grounds.

The petitioner has sought to quash the government’s decision to allow large vehicles on the highway, saying movement of such vehicles could increase risk of accidents.
