KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 26

With the end of official holidays for Nepal's greatest festival of Dashain today, more and more people have started returning to Kathmandu valley. However, life is unlikely to normalise for the next couple of days until Sunday.

People's movement inside the major cities of Kathmandu valley increased slightly today compared to the main five celebration days of the festival.

The entry points of Kathmandu valley saw increased traffic congestion during the evening.

Traffic police said over one million people had left the valley for their villages to celebrate Dashain after Ghatasthapana on October 15. The inflow of majority of people, however, will fully resume only after the completion of Dashain on the full moon day on Saturday.

Around 8,000 vehicles and an estimated 100,000 people entered the valley till 7:00pm today from the four major entry points at Nagdhunga, Bhaktapur, Mudku and Pharping, as per Metropolitan Traffic Police Division. Likewise, 25,000 motorbikes and an estimated 40,000 people entered the valley on motorbikes.

"The traffic movement inside the major city junctures did not increase noticeably today and it's likely to remain the same for the next two days," said an official at Metropolitan Traffic Radio Station.
