Top Court issues stay order against govt decision to suspend NRB governor

KATHMANDU, APRIL 20

Nepal Rastra Bank Governor Maha Prasad Adhikari is all set to return to his work today, as the Supreme Court stayed his suspension.

​​​​​​The Apex Court on Tuesday issues a short-term stay order to the government, asking it to show cause for its decision to suspend the Governor earlier this month.

With this, Governor Adhikari will resume his duties as the chief of the central bank effective today.

Furthermore, the court has asked both the parties to present their arguments at the next hearing scheduled on April 26, following which the court will decision whether or not to issue an interim order on the case.

Government of Nepal, on April 8, had decided to relieve the governor of his duties. Adhikari was automatically suspended after the government decided to form an investigation committee to probe various allegations leveled against the Governor, including leaking of information to media regarding the Finance Ministry's recent decision on prohibition of luxury goods import.
