KATHMANDU, JANUARY 5
Minister for Home Affairs, Ramesh Lekhak, stated that the reconstruction of physical infrastructure damaged by earthquakes, floods, and landslides is progressing rapidly.
Addressing the 28th meeting of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) today, Minister Lekhak emphasized the acceleration of disaster damage assessment (DDA) and reconstruction efforts.
"Today's meeting resolved to initiate DDA for earthquake, flood, and landslide damage in Doti, Bajura, Bajhang, and Jajarkot while expediting reconstruction in areas where assessments have been completed," he said.
He further noted that legal and financial measures required for reconstruction in assessed areas have been decided. "Standards for disaster risk reduction and management were passed earlier, and the relevant work procedures were approved today. DDA for the Jajarkot earthquake will commence in the first week of February," he added.
Minister Lekhak also informed that these decisions will be presented at the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council meeting, chaired by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, at 7 p.m. today at the Prime Minister's official residence in Baluwatar.
He concluded that reconstruction efforts would gain further momentum following the council's decisions.
