Newly appointed Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deepak Thapa assumed office this afternoon.
Upon taking charge, he emphasized that maintaining law and order remains his top priority. The Cabinet, in its meeting on Monday, decided to promote Thapa to the position of IGP.
Home Secretary Gokarna Mani Duwadi conferred the insignia on Thapa during the formal ceremony. On the occasion, Secretary Duwadi extended his congratulations and best wishes for a successful tenure.
The event was attended by Inspector General of the Armed Police Force Nepal, Raju Aryal; Chief Investigation Director of the National Investigation Department, Hut Raj Thapa; Additional Inspectors General of Police; senior Home Ministry officials; Deputy Inspectors General; and members of the media.
Following his appointment, IGP Thapa reaffirmed his commitment to upholding law and order while advancing the progress of Nepal Police. Expressing confidence in collective support, he stated his determination to fulfill these objectives.
Prior to assuming office, he paid tribute at the Police Martyrs' Memorial located within the Nepal Police Headquarters and laid a wreath in their honor.
Additionally, he planted a Neem sapling on the office premises as a symbolic gesture.
