Bus mows down cyclist

Kathmandu: A passenger bus (Ba 1 Kha 6649) belonging to Kantipur Yatayat hit a cyclist to death in Balaju on Sunday. According to police, the bus hit Ram Saran Neupane from Nuwakot district at around 9:45 am. “He died while being rushed to Bir Hospital for treatment after the bus en route to Kalanki knocked him down nearby Metropolitan Police Circle at Balaju,” informed DSP Basanta Bahadur Kunwar. Following the incident, the victim’s kin and local residents disrupted the traffic throughout the day demanding compensation and stringent against the driver. Police said bus driver, Mohan Adhikari, was held for investigation. — HNS

Neupane new DPA head

KATHMANDU: Professor and former campus chief of Nepal Law Campus, Gunanidhi Neupane, has been elected as the new president of Democratic Professors Association. The two-day second general assembly of the DPA, which is one of the sister organisations affiliated to Nepali Congress, also elected Ashok Koirala as the first vice-president and six second vice-presidents. — HNS

SAWM forms new WC

KATHMANDU: The first national convention of South Asian Women in Media, Nepal chapter concluded in the capital on Sunday. A 11-member Working Committee (WC) was formed on the occasion. Arati Chataut has been named the president while Maina Dhital is the general secretary. Nirmala Sharma, Ila Sharma, Mateshwori Rajbhandari, Punam Poudel, Simrika Sharma, Yasoda Adhakari, Pawan Barsha Shah, Shanta Basnet and Harikala Adhakari are the new members. — HNS

RAP workshop kicks off

Lalitpur: The two-day annual workshop of Rural Access Programme (RAP), under Department For International Development (DFID-Nepal), kicked off here on Sunday.
