KATHMANDU, DECEMBER 1

The 'International Dignified Menstruation Learning Conference 2025' is set to take place in Kathmandu from December 8 to 10 to commemorate the seventh International Dignified Menstruation Day, which is observed globally every year on the 14th day of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, on December 8.

The Global South Coalition for Dignified Menstruation and the Radha Paudel Foundation are organising the three-day event in partnership with the National Youth Council and Men Engage Alliance (Global).

Dr Radha Paudel, founder of the Radha Paudel Foundation, stated at a press briefing today that menstrual discrimination undermines all aspects of women's fundamental and human rights.

"Moreover, it exacerbates the gender-based violence from the close persons in the family, including parents, spouses and siblings. Thus, to hold a wider discussion, the conference will feature 12 thematic sessions, including presentations, panel discussions, plenaries, workshops, strategy building and working-group formations to look into the various angles of dignified menstruation and its practice," she said.

She also stated that the event aims to advance policy dialogue, share global experiences, promote evidence-based solutions, and strengthen international cooperation. According to a statement issued by the Radha Paudel Foundation, this year's global theme, 'Dignified Menstruation for Dignity, Equality, and Human Rights,' will guide events in Nepal and throughout the world.

Over 140 people, including experts, policymakers, youth leaders, and stakeholders from 21 countries, are expected to attend. Delegates will represent Nepal, Australia, Bangladesh, Benin, Bhutan, Bulgaria, Cameroon, Congo, France, Germany, Guinea, India, Italy, Ivory Coast, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, the Philippines, Spain, Togo, and the United States.
