KATHMANDU, MAY 27
Nritya Aagan, one of Nepal's leading performing arts studios, is set to present Kathak Bhela Season 2, Episode 3 with its second show on Saturday, May 31, at Studio Theatre, Pingalasthan, from 6 PM to 7 PM. This vibrant celebration of classical dance continues the studio's mission of blending performance, artistic exchange, and audience engagement.
Launched in 2022, Kathak Bhela was envisioned as a platform to bring artists from various disciplines together and foster connection with the community. While rooted in Kathak, the series encourages exploration through collaboration with music, dance, and other art forms. At its core, Kathak Bhela invites participation, shared experience, and open artistic dialogue. In this episode, Nritya Aagan has decided to take the intimate sharings in its studio to a larger stage.
The episode is designed and led by Subima Shrestha, Kathak artist and founder of Nritya Aagan. Known for her rigor, footwork, grace, and storytelling, Shrestha's choreography emphasizes the subtleties and details in movements and bhava while maintaining the the integrity of each dance and finding ways to combine the unity.
She will be joined by a talented group of Kathak dancers:
Sanskriti Rauniyar, a dedicated performer who began training at the age of eight, known for her command of laya and taal.
Janaki Rai, a professional chef gradually stepping into the world of Kathak with growing passion.
Mansi Oli, an enthusiastic and emerging young Kathak artist representing the next generation.
The performance will be accompanied by a powerful lineup of musicians:
Suresh Raj Bajracharya, Nimesh Kapali, and Nikhil Bista on tabla; Smarika Phuyal on vocals; and Aarav Maharjan on flute.

Together, the ensemble promises an immersive experience-where live music, expressive storytelling, and interactive moments bring the audience closer to the essence of Kathak.
Season 1 of Kathak Bhela (July 2022–2023) featured monthly performances and interactive sessions that drew diverse audiences across age groups and artistic communities. The initiative has since grown into a dynamic movement, fostering dialogue between artists and viewers while nurturing a sense of belonging within the arts community.
Following the success of the Season 2 premiere on May 24, the upcoming May 31 performance invites audiences to once again immerse themselves in the rhythm, expression, and cultural richness of Kathak.
Based in Lalitpur, Nepal, Nritya Aagan is a performing arts studio founded in 2009 by Kathak artist Subima Shrestha that offers classes in Kathak, Ballet, Bharatanatyam, and Creative Movement.
