KATHMANDU, MAY 8
Kathmandu Valley witnessed a striking number of coronavirus infections with a total of 3,113 new cases on Saturday.
The capital city recorded 2,270 infections, Lalitpur 462 cases, and Bhaktapur 381 cases today.
This is 37.56 per cent of the total cases observed today. There were as many as 8,287 infections recorded today across the country.
Kathmandu district continues to have the highest number of infections logged in 24 hours. Similarly, Rupandehi is second in line with 861 infections, while Surkhet stands third with 597 cases.
Total active cases in Kathmandu is 26,426 as of today, that in Lalitpur is 5,712, and in Bhaktapur is 3,540. Kathmandu has recorded 141,826 total infections until today. The same in Lalitpur is 23,758 and in Bhaktapur is 13,626.
The valley recorded as many as 11 Covid-related fatalities today -- six in Kathmandu, one in Lalitpur, and four in Bhaktapur. As such, the total number of deaths in Kathmandu till date is 820, that in Lalitpur is 233, and in Bhaktapur is 172.
Country itself recorded 53 Covid-related fatalities today, which totals to 3,632 deaths till date. The death rate (total deaths by total positive cases) as of today is 0.94 per cent.
As many as 22 districts hold active cases above 500 -- Morang, Sunsari, Jhapa, Dhanusha, Parsa, Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Chitwan, Kavrepanlanchowk, Makawanpur, Dhading, Nuwakot, Kaski, Dang, Banke, Rupandehi, Palpa, Bardiya, Kapilvastu, Surkhet and Kailali.
21 districts hold active cases above 200. They are Bara, Rautahat, Mahottari, Sarlahi, Siraha, Sindhupalchowk, Sindhuli, Gorkha, Nawalparasi (East), Tanahun, Myagdi, Syangja, Nawalparasi (West), Arghakhanchi, Gulmi, Dailekh, Kanchanpur, Baitadi, Dadheldhura, Doti and Achham.
