KATHMANDU, JUNE 2

The main opposition party, the CPN-MC, reiterated its demand that Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak resign at a meeting of the three parties held at Singha Durbar.

CPN-MC lawmaker Hitraj Pandey, who took part in the discussion at the Prime Minister's Office and the Council of Ministers, stated that his party believes the home minister should resign in order to ensure a fair investigation into the visit visa scandal.

The Maoists and others are continuously obstructing the Parliament meeting and demanding the resignation of the Home Minister.

"The issue we raised in the House remains unchanged," Pandey stated following the meeting. "We have said that the home minister should allow for an impartial investigation to resolve the issue that has erupted in the visit visa scam."

He stated that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli urged to move forward by opening the parliament during the meeting.

"Instead of resigning, PM Oli suggested that we move forward by resuming parliament. We responded that the issue of good governance cannot be compromised," Pandey said.

According to Pandey, the ruling party leaders, including the prime minister, have stated that there is no need to resign because the issue is one of employees of his ministry.

He stated that Home Minister Lekhak, who attended the meeting, had denied any involvement in the scam.

As per Pandey, the meeting also addressed ongoing regressive activities. He stated that the leaders are united to strongly oppose the regressive forces.

Meanwhile, speaking at a CPN-UML parliamentary party meeting in Baneshwor today, Prime Minister Oli stated that regular Parliamentary activities will resume on Tuesday.

PM Oli also stated that it is against democracy for the opposition to obstruct parliamentary business, creating an unnecessary issue demanding the resignation of Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak.

As per the Prime Minister's Secretariat, other leaders attending the meeting chaired by Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chair Oli included Nepali Congress (NC) President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN-MC Chair and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, and NC leader and Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak.
