Mahat holds NC triumvirate responsible for defeat in PM poll

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress Central Working Committee member Ram Sharan Mahat held three top leaders of the party responsible for its defeat in the prime ministerial election.

Speaking at an interaction in the Capital, Mahat said party President Sushil Koirala, senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba and Vice-President Ram Chandra Paudel were responsible for the loss as they made the decision of candidacy.

The three top leaders did not do needful homework before filing the candidacy, he claimed.

The CWC meeting to be held soon would review the party decision to field its own candidate in the election and the subsequent loss, he added.

The Congress leader was of the view that it was positive that lawmakers of agitating Madhes-based parties also joined the House, only because the NC contested.

Meanwhile, he shared that the NC would field candidates in elections of President, Vice-President, Speaker and Deputy-Speaker also after consulting the parties that supported Koirala in the PM election.

The former Finance Minister said his party would work to strengthen democracy, nationalism, economic prosperity and democratic values, though it was in the opposition.
