Nepali Congress lawmaker, Chandra Bhandari, who was badly injured in an LPG cylinder blast last night, was airlifted to Mumbai today for further treatment. His mother, Harikala, who also suffered severe burns in the blast, succumbed to her injuries this morning.

A team of three doctors from Norvic hospital -- Pradeep Tiwari, Pradeep Sharma, and Roshan Sharma -- and three paramedics -- Dinesh Rai, Sagar Maharjan, and Raj Tamang -- are accompanying Bhandari on a Shree Airlines flight.

Bhandari was being treated at Kirtipur-based Nepal Cleft and Burn Centre since last night. However, doctors referred him to a Mumbai-based hospital as the centre was "illequipped to treat Bhandari's injuries".

The blast occurred last night at the lawmaker's Buddhanagar house around 10:30pm. According to the preliminary police investigation, Harikala suspected gas leak in kitchen. When Chandra went to the kitchen to check, he apparently switched on the light, triggering the blast.
