Nepali Congress (NC) has decided to fly the party flag at half-mast for three days to mourn the passing of its leader, former minister Nabindra Raj Joshi.

An emergency meeting of the party's central working committee that took place at the party's central office in Sanepa today, expressing deep sorrow over the demise of its leader, took a decision to this effect.

Likewise, the party has decided not to conduct any other formal programmes except mourning programmes till March 30 in honour of the departed leader.

The party has decided to organise a condolence assembly on the 13th day of his passing in the central office and in all district offices by maintaining social distancing measures.

NC central member Joshi was elected in the 2013 second Constituent Assembly elections from Kathmandu Constituency. He served the country through different positions including Deputy Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City and Minister for Industry of the Government of Nepal.

According to family sources, the last rites of late Joshi will be carried out at Pashupati Aryaghat today itself.


Nation loses an honest leader: President Bhandari

Meanwhile, President Bidya Devi Bhandari has expressed sorrow over the NC leader Joshi's demise.

The President said that the country has lost an honest politician. She also extended condolence to the bereaved family.
