KATHMANDU, AUGUST 11
Minister for Drinking Water, Pradeep Yadav, held discussions with an expert team from the Indian government regarding the ongoing drinking water crisis in the Terai-Madhes region.
Joint Secretary and Spokesperson for the Ministry, Meena Shrestha, stated that the Indian experts arrived in Nepal on Monday at the special invitation of Minister Yadav. The meeting focused on assessing the severity of the water shortage in Madhes Province and exploring long-term solutions.
According to Shrestha, the team will visit the worst-affected districts of the Terai-Madhes on Tuesday to engage with relevant stakeholders and prepare an action plan to address the crisis.
During the discussions, Minister Yadav highlighted that Birgunj Metropolitan City is facing the most acute shortage, while Bara and other districts are also grappling with severe water scarcity.
The Indian delegation included Dehradun Regional Director Prashant Rae, Jagdamma Prasad, and Ashish Pandey, Advisor to the Lucknow Drinking Water and Sanitation Department.
