KATHMANDU, OCTOBER 22

With the onset of Tihar, Nepal's second-largest festival, the number of people leaving the Kathmandu Valley to celebrate in their home districts has seen a sharp rise.

According to Naresh Raj Subedi, spokesperson and Superintendent of Police at the Valley Traffic Police Office, a total of 44,509 people have departed the Valley, while 31,012 have entered through various checkpoints.

Data from the Valley Traffic Police Office indicate that the Nagdhunga checkpoint remains the busiest exit point, with 18,920 passengers leaving the Valley from there alone. Likewise, 285 people exited through the Thankot checkpoint, 845 through Tinpiple, and 692 via Sankhu checkpoint.

Spokesperson Subedi said that a special traffic management plan has been put in place to minimize potential issues such as traffic congestion, road accidents, and passenger fraud, which tend to increase during the festive period.
