Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has stated that the government is committed to enhancing the standards of universities.
During a meeting with experts from the education sector at the Prime Minister's official residence in Baluwatar today, he announced that the government will select vice-chancellors for universities through an open competition to prevent the institutions from being used for political purposes.
"The Prime Minister emphasized that the best minds should focus on nation-building and that universities should not become a tool for serving political interests. He expressed confidence that a breakthrough in the tradition of selecting university officials is imminent, and he sought the support and cooperation of the intellectual community in this regard.
"As he assured, universities will undergo a transformation, allowing them to exist as competitive academic institutions of international standards. He mentioned that since assuming office, he has been committed to delivering in favor of good governance, social justice, and prosperity for a bright and prosperous Nepal.
"He highlighted the responsibility of the state in assuring its citizens that a future is possible within the country, emphasizing the vital role of the intellectual community in this regard. The Prime Minister stressed that all governments, political parties, and people share the responsibility of contributing to the nation's development, emphasizing the need for transformation in political, economic, social, cultural, and educational sectors, with the state taking the primary responsibility in addressing these needs.
"Dr. Kedar Bhakta Mathema, Dr. Pitambar Sharma, Dr. Bidyanath Koirala, Dr. Chaitanya Mishra, and Prof. Krishna Khanal were among those present in the meeting with the Prime Minister. They advised the Prime Minister to initiate efforts for the restructuring of the education sector.
