KATHMANDU, JANUARY 2

President Ramchandra Paudel emphasized that classrooms serve as places for awakening students, while sports play a crucial role in keeping them physically and mentally active, as well as disciplined.

During his address at the inaugural session of the third President Running Shield Tournament organized by the Kathmandu Metropolitan City, the Head of State highlighted that extra-curricular activities, including sports, broaden the education system, providing opportunities for self-confidence, positivity, and a talent-valued social life among students.

Referring to education and sports as two sides of a coin, the President stated that sports encourage students to become self-dependent and empowered. He called on the authorities concerned to make sufficient efforts for the development and promotion of sports at all levels: federal, provincial, and local.

The President argued that relying solely on books and classroom-based learning is not sufficient to make students complete, emphasizing that sports are instrumental in broadening their learning horizons, helping them explore new ideas and innovations.

Kathmandu Metropolis Mayor Balendra Shah, speaking on the occasion, highlighted that sports serve as a means of empowering students both physically and mentally, and they should be promoted within the school environment. Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol underscored the importance of promoting sports to produce human resources capable of contributing to nation-building.

A total of 3,250 students from 83 schools are competing for various titles in six games: volleyball, Kabbadi, taekwondo, athletics, karate, and wushu in the three-day tournament.
