Rain to continue for a few more days

Kathmandu, April 6

Many parts of the country, including Kathmandu valley, may continue to experience thunder-showers and lightning for a few more days, according to the Meteorological Forecasting Division.

MFD added that it was a normal weather pattern before monsoon which would begin in June.

Pre-monsoon season in Nepal also marks the transition between summer and monsoon. Overcast conditions across the country and thunderstorm with gusty winds and lightning are likely to occur at some places today, it informed.

According to MFD, cumulonimbus clouds were responsible for thunderstorm, windstorm and hailstorm. Cumulonimbus clouds are formed in the sky in the afternoon or evening when the atmosphere is highly unstable because of high temperatures prevailing at lower levels.

Taplejung station of MFD recorded 31.8 mm rain followed by Dhankuta (29.3 mm), Okhaldhunga (12.9 mm), Kathmandu (12.5 mm), Birendranagar (7.4 mm), Simara (7.2 mm), Dipayal 3.8 mm and Pokhara (2.5 mm) in the past 24 hours.
