Sajha Yatayat to resume service after polls
Kathmandu, March 25:
The Sajha Yatayat is preparing to resume its services after the constituent assembly election.
The government-owned transport service provider SY has been paying compensation to its former employees for the closure of the service for about 18 months.
“Because of the likely disturbances in the run-up to election, we’ll resume the service only after the completion of the constituent assembly polls,” said Ananta Poudel, administration officer.
Sajha Yatayat accountant Gopal Panta informed that some 55 former employees were yet to receive their share of compensation and some 30 others were waiting for the court to settle their damages claim and most of the others have already taken their compensation.
“Some 17 ex-employees living abroad have also received their dues through their bank accounts and 12 others living abroad are yet to receive their shares,” he said.
Panta said that 10 SY buses are in good condition and five others can be operated after minor maintenance.
“We won’t use these old buses for long routes,” he said adding that new buses should be brought to run the SY in full capacity.
He also claimed that the SY was playing a crucial role in maintaining transport fare in the market and in absence of the service now the public buses are monopolising fares.
