SC issues 2nd order to stay Jaya Bahadur Chand's promotion
KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court on Monday issued another order staying the promotion of DIG Jaya Bahadur Chand to the post of Inspector General of Nepal Police.
A single bench of Chief Justice Sushila Karki, in response to a writ filed by DIG Nawa Raj Silwal, ordered that Chand be barred from assuming the position till the next hearing on the case.
Silwal had moved the apex court demanding he should be appointed the IG on the basis of seniority.
Earlier on Sunday, the same bench had issued another interim order barring the government from implementing its decision to appoint Chand to the top post of the national police organisation.
Meanwhile, the court also ordered today that both the writ petitions tried together on Sunday next week.
The Cabinet yesterday had decided to promote Chand, but the decision had drawn flak from various sectors citing the decision breached the tradition of seniority.
