KATHMANDU, JULY 10
Project Sarangi Foundation, in collaboration with Surya Nepal under their corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, has commenced a one-of-a-kind project dedicated to preserving and passing on the rich cultural heritage of traditional Sarangi to the next generation. The primary goal is to ensure that the local traditional sarangi, a stringed instrument with a rich history and cultural significance deeply rooted in Nepalese culture, continues to flourish for years to come.
This multifaceted project combines various elements to create a comprehensive and immersive experience that includes a training program that offers aspiring musicians the opportunity to learn and master the art of playing the sarangi; engaging workshops that serve as a platform for students, enlightening them about the significance of sarangi, and igniting a sense of motivation to embrace and explore the rich cultural heritage of tradi2onal folk music; and a special event where talented musicians come together to create a harmonious symphony, bridging the gap between tradition and innovation.
The project will be conducted in seven municipalities of Kathmandu, namely Kirtipur, Dakshinkali, Madhyapur Thimi, Surya Binayak, Changunarayan, Mahalaxmi, and Lalitpur, at various locations. In each municipality, one government school has been carefully chosen, and ten students from each school will be granted the opportunity to participate in a Basic Sarangi Course, that will not only equip them with practical skills but also instills a deep sense of pride and reverence for our cherished traditional music.
