NOTAM issued as domestic, international flights remain suspended

KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 10

Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) remains closed until further notice, citing a combination of security and safety concerns.

In a new notice, the airport authority pointed to a nationwide curfew, an adverse situation in the Kathmandu Valley, and hazardous smoke on the runway as reasons for the extended shutdown.

The directive means that no domestic flights, international travel, or private helicopter operations will be allowed to land or take off from Kathmandu's sole international gateway during this period.

The notice further advised all passengers to refrain from coming to the airport unless they have confirmed the resumption of operations with TIA and contacted their respective airline.

TIA was fully shut down on Tuesday after escalating demonstrations across the Kathmandu Valley, with repeated incidents of fire in areas such as Gothatar and worsening aviation security conditions prompting authorities to suspend all operations. The Nepali Army has since been deployed to secure the airport premises.

As of now, both domestic and international flights remain grounded, leaving many travelers stranded in the capital. Airline operators have advised passengers to remain updated through official channels as the situation develops.
